The online event is designed for small business owners and senior leaders looking to secure their business. Event speaker, James Cash, Birmingham IT support company Founder and MD - Superfast IT, explains: “As a business leader, time is precious and we wear many hats. Operations and finance often take primary focus, while security takes a back seat.
“Cyber security is often misunderstood. It can be difficult to know where to start and what security is proportionate for your business size in terms of feasibility and cost. Cyber security doesn’t have to be expensive, but basic controls are needed for every business in 2022 to prevent becoming a cybercrime victim. In 2022 cyber security needs to take a front seat to reflect the growing risk.”
The cost of cybercrime is steadily increasing year on year. Reported losses from cybercrime was £3m between Sept 2020 – Aug 2021, with the West Midlands seeing over a 2000% rise in reported losses in the past 12 months compared against the previous period, according to Action Fraud statistics. The £3m reported losses account for the direct costs and does not include the cost to rectify the problem, as well as indirect costs such as the amount of time, effort and other organisational resources spent, or the revenue loss resulting from lost opportunity or reputational damage.
James continues: “The message is clear, it's not a matter of if but when criminals target your business. The good news is SMEs can take control of their security and there are many resources available to Midlands based businesses. This includes free membership to the WMCRC. There is a lot of help out there for SMEs and the webinar will provide attendees with guidance and everything they need to know about cyber security today.”
DI Hinesh Mehta, Former Head of Cyber and Innovation - WMCRC and Detective Inspector – RCCU is an event speaker. During his 16 year’s service with the West Midlands Police, Hinesh has been heavily involved with shaping Police response to cybercrime. Supported by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Hinesh will introduce WMCRC and the discounted cyber services and support available from their free membership.
Attendees can also take advantage of a free business security audit and network with business leaders following the webinar.
